Take and Insert a Screenshot in an Office Document

While composing your document, and are ready to take a shot, go to Insert on the ribbon and click the Screenshot button that’s located in the Illustrations section.

That gives you two options which are available windows that are open (not minimized) that you can choose. Or, select Screen Clipping so you can grab a specific screenshot you want. If you select Screen Clipping, it works like the Snipping Tool which is a utility built into previous versions of Windows. The screen grays out, and you can drag the cursor to select the area of your screen you want to capture. Then the screenshot will automatically be placed into the document you’re creating.

If you need to further edit the image, you can use the editing tools included in the Office app.

This is a great solution if you need to pop in a screenshot into a document quickly without the need to use a separate third-party utility. It’s also worth noting that you can use this option if you’re using Microsoft Word to create and publish blog posts.

Microsoft has pushed out an update to Insiders for the app meant to replace the Snipping Tool in Windows 10. Previously called the Screen Sketch, the app is now called Snip & Sketch, and has been updated to version 10.1807.2286.0.

Besides the name change, the update also brings the useful feature of two options for delayed capture, 3 and 10 seconds.

The full changelog reads:

  • New name: Switch from Screen Sketch to Snip & Sketch
  • New capture options: It is now possible to choose when to start image capture mode. You can choose between “Capture now”, “Capture in 3 seconds” and “Capture in 10 seconds”
  • Improvements and various corrections

With Microsoft set to replace Snipping tool with Screen Sketch, the app needs to be refined in order to be replaced completely. When Microsoft launched it initially, the app didn’t produce great screenshots and the images were blurry. An update has corrected that issue and this update addresses another outstanding feature that prevented it from being a full-featured replacement.
